Abstract in English
Currently, Brazil has been gaining market in the orange juice export industry, being accountable for 61% of world production. In view of the great productivity of Brazilian orange, the use of pesticides accompanies this productive growth. Food security becomes an important issue for consumers' health. In order to assess the quality of citrus, eleven samples of pear orange and nine samples of orange juice collected at fairs, supermarkets and local farms were analyzed, and the concentration of five pesticides for this cultivation medium was determined: Trifluralin, Chlorotalonil, Chlorpyrifos, Dicofol and Azoxystrobin. Among them, Dicofol stands out, being an organochlorine acaricide used for citrus growth, however it was recently banned by the National Health Surveillance Agency (ANVISA) and added to the Stockholm Convention due to its classification as POP (Persistent Organic Pollutant). The analytical techniques used was gas chromatography coupled to an electron capture detector (GC / ECD) and gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC / MS). The samples of orange juice were purchased at markets and restaurants in the city of São Paulo. The orange samples were purchased at open markets, markets and farms with local production, with the proviso that they were produced in Brazil. The sample collection and homogenization procedure were carried out according to ANVISA and Codex Alimentarius guidelines. Three extraction methods were used: "QuEChERS ORIGINAL", "MODIFIED QuEChERS" (acetate) and Liquid-Liquid extraction. The QuEChERS method is a modern method that is revolutionizing the preparation of complex matrix samples. The three methodologies were compared in relation to the extraction efficiency of the pesticides from the matrix and the quantification and confirmation of the analytes were performed using the GC / ECD and GC / MS equipment. The liquid-liquid extraction method presented problems with the matrix regarding to the formation of a large amount of emulsion, making the separation of the solvent and the matrix impracticable. In the extraction via QuEChERS ORIGINAL, the separation of the analytes from the matrix is done by the use of acetonitrile, magnesium sulfate and sodium chloride. In the MODIFIED QuEChERS, in addition to a larger sample rate, acidified acetonitrile (1% acetic acid), magnesium sulfate and sodium acetate were used. The change in pH in the extraction was evaluated, as well as the influence of the change in sample proportion and addition of a different salt such as sodium acetate on the extraction efficiency of the pesticides. Analytical quality parameters such as selectivity / matrix effect, linearity, detection limit and quantification were established. Chlorpyrifos pesticide was detected in four of the twenty samples analyzed, at a concentration of 0.01 to 0.04 mg kg-1, that is, below the maximum residue limit of 2 mg kg-1 (MRL) recommended by ANVISA.
