Abstract in English
The present work evaluated the technical viability of the use of bamboo specie Bambusa vulgaris Schard. as a alternative raw material for charcoal production. Bambusa vulgaris Schard. samples were collected with 2 years of age, carbonized at 400º0, 600ºC and 800 ºC in an electrical furnace. Samples of wood specie Eucalyptus saligna were also prepared for comparison. Ultimate and approximate analyses were performed on samples to determine the bulk density, yield, moisture, ash amount, and heat of combustion. The results showed that it is possible to produce charcoal from Bambusa vulgaris Schard. on a laboratory scale, and there is a possibility to extend that production in an industrial scale.
