Abstract in English
UV filters are active ingredients present in cosmetic formulations, which are intended to protect against UVA and UVB ultraviolet rays. In recent years these compounds are being studied in environmental assessments, due to the negative environmental effects they can cause, as a result they have already been quantified in sea water from countries such as Spain, Japan, United States, China, Italy, and Greece. Thus, this work aimed to develop, validate, and apply an analytical methodology for quantification of the UV filters, benzophenone-3, octinoxate, avobenzone and octocrylene and apply this methodology in the analysis of samples collected on the beaches of Santos, São Vicente and Ubatuba, from tourist cities on the coast of São Paulo. The developed methodology uses the solvent demulsification dispersive liquid-liquid micro extraction technique for sample preparation, optimized by multifactorial statistical study, and the quantitation were carried out by High Performance Liquid Chromatography coupled with Mass Spectrometry in 5 minutes. The developed methodology includes a working range of 0.1 to 5.0 ng mL-1 for all analytes, precision with RSD below 30% and recovery between 73 and 139%. Samples collected at Santos and São Vicente beaches in 2018 and at Ubatuba in 2019 and 2020 were analyzed and the presence of OMC (0.11 to 0.15 ng mL-1), BMDM (0.16 ng mL-1) and OCT (0.14 to 0.32 ng mL-1) were identified on the beaches of Baixada Santista and BP3 (0.10 to 0.99 ng mL-1), OMC (0.12 to 0.26 ng ml-1), BMDM (0.13 ng ml-1) and OCT (0.10 to 0.32 ng ml-1) on Ubatuba beaches. A complementary exploratory analysis was also carried out using high resolution accurate mass technique, using Quadrupole Time of Flight analyzers, and the presence of synthetic drugs, such as 17-estradiol, 17a-ethinylestradiol, ofloxacin bisoprolol and atenolol in samples from Santos and Ubatuba, evidence the influence of sanitary wastewater release on the water quality of the São Paulo coast.
