Abstract in English
Trogoderma granarium is an insect commonly found in stored grains and by-products such as flour and bran, it is one of the main pests in several countries in the world. Because of this fact, the research aims was to determine the lethal and sterilizing doses for all phases of the evolutionary cycle of T. granarium aiming at its control. The experiment was carried out at the Radiobiology and Environment Laboratory of the Center for Nuclear Energy in Agriculture - CENA / USP. All phases of the insect's life cycle (egg, larva, pupa and adult) were irradiated with increasing doses of cobalt-60 gamma radiation, from: 0 (control), 10, 20, 30, 50, 75, 100, 125, 150 and 175 Gy. Each treatment consisted of 10 repetitions with 10 eggs each for a total of 100 eggs. For larvae, pupae and adults 20 per repetition and 200 per treatment. After irradiation, the insects were kept in an air-conditioned room with 25 ± 5 ºC and 70 ± 5% relative humidity. Assessments were made every 7 days for a period of up to 63 days for the mortality of: eggs, larvae, pupae and adults. The experimental statistical design for each trial was completely randomized. The results obtained in the evaluations was subjected to analysis of variance by the F test, and the comparison of the means by the Tukey test at 5%. The lethal doses for eggs, larvae and pupae were: 30, 125 and 150 Gy and the sterilizing for adults was 150 Gy. Therefore, the recommended dose for phytosanitary treatment of T. granarium is 150 Gy.
