A pesquisa apresentada nessa dissertação teve como tema o colecionismo de arte latino- americana por colecionadores do continente, em circuitos transregionais e instâncias cultural e mercadológica do campo artístico. O estudo foi conduzido sob uma abordagem interdisciplinar, em que se destacam a História, a Crítica, a Sociologia e a Economia da Arte, em uma primeira etapa exploratória em torno ao cenário regional e internacional que se configurou nos anos 1970, quando se observa a formação de coleções sob a categoria de arte latino-americana. A partir disso, desenvolveu-se um estudo comparativo da trajetória de formação das coleções privadas de Eduardo Costantini e de Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, de suas conversões em dimensão pública e institucionalização no Museo de Arte Latinoamericano, MALBA, e na Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, CCPC, respectivamente. A análise desses projetos colecionistas permitiu uma melhor compreensão da emergência dessa prática entre colecionadores da própria região e de seus impactos na consolidação do sistema e dos circuitos da arte latino-americana. De forma mais ampla, o estudo contribuiu para a compreensão dos princípios que organizam a hegemonia de um sistema e de circuitos sob essa categoria artística, e o discernimento das influências das coleções e dos colecionadores exercidas como consagradores da legitimidade de um tipo de bem simbólico e de um modo de apropriação, na América Latina

The research presented in this dissertation had as its theme the collection of Latin American art by collectors from the continent, in transregional circuits and cultural and marketing instances of the artistic field. The study was conducted under an interdisciplinary approach, in which History, Criticism, Sociology and the Economy of Art stand out, in a first exploratory stage around the regional and international scenario that was configured in the 1970s, when it can be noted the formation of collections under the category of Latin American art. Based on this, a comparative study was developed focused on the formation trajectory of the private collections of Eduardo Costantini and Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, its conversion into a public dimension and institutionalization in the Museo de Arte Latinoamericano, MALBA, and in the Colección Patricia Phelps de Cisneros, CCPC, respectively. The analysis of these collecting projects allowed a better understanding of the emergence of this practice among collectors in the region and its impacts on the consolidation of the Latin American art system and circuits. More broadly, the study contributed to the understanding of the principles that organize the hegemony of a system and circuits under this artistic category, and the discernment of the influences of collections and collectors exercised as consecrators of the legitimacy of a type of symbolic and in a way of appropriation, in Latin America
