O presente trabalho tem como objetivo analisar como a trajetória artística das artistas plásticas latino-americanas Tarsila do Amaral e Frida Kahlo são apresentadas em exposições realizadas em museus não latino-americanos e reconhecidos internacionalmente. Trata-se de um esforço de compreender quais informações e ideias são destacadas, qual mensagem é transmitida ao público e qual perspectiva é utilizada para abordar as obras e o legado artístico das duas pintoras no contexto das exposições. São analisadas e comentadas uma exposição de cada artista: no que se refere a Frida Kahlo a exposição Frida Kahlo: Making Her Self Up no Victoria and Albert Museum em Londres (2018); e no caso de Tarsila do Amaral, a exposição Tarsila do Amaral: Inventing Modern Art in Brazil, inicialmente no Art Institute of Chicago (2017) e em seguida no Museum of Modern Art, de Nova York (2018). Para tanto, o trabalho é composto por um texto biográfico de cada uma das artistas, o estudo aprofundado das exposições, e uma análise partindo de uma perspectiva decolonial para tratar sobre a importância do reconhecimento e da valorização da cultura e arte latino-americana. Nos textos de cunho biográfico aborda-se a vida e obra das pintoras, sua repercussão e legado artístico, assim como de que forma as obras das artistas são recontextualizadas na contemporaneidade. Já os textos referentes especificamente às exposições têm como base seus respectivos catálogos e a forma como elas foram noticiadas pela grande mídia. Na parte final do trabalho trata-se da representatividade de Tarsila e Frida, comenta-se o contexto latino-americano a partir de uma perspectiva decolonial e discorre-se sobre a importância da expografia na construção de narrativas. Conclui-se como é fundamental refletir sobre de que forma as exposições se constituem como vias de comunicação importantes que interferem na construção do imaginário social, podendo assim afetar o reconhecimento das produções culturais de uma região da periferia do sistema.

The present work aims at analyzing how the artistic trajectory of the plastic Latin American artists Tarsila do Amaral e Frida Kahlo are presented in exhibitions held in non-Latin American, internationally respected museums. It is concerned with an effort to understand which pieces of information and ideas are highlighted, which message is transmitted to the public, and which perspective is used to approach the works and the artistic legacy of the two painters in the context of the exhibition. One exhibition of each artist is analyzed and commented: regarding Frida Kahlo, the exhibition Frida Kahlo: Making Her Self Up, in the Victoria and Albert Museum of London; regarding Tarsila do Amaral, the exhibition Tarsila do Amaral: inventing Modern Art in Brazil, initially in the Art Institute of Chicago (2017) and then in the Museum of Modern Art of New York (2018). To that end, the work is composed of a biographical text of each one of the artists, a detailed study of the exhibitions, and an analysis from a decolonial standpoint to discuss the importance of accepting and valuing Latin American culture and art. In the biographical texts, we approach the life and work of the painters, their repercussion and artistic legacy, as well as how their works are recontextualized in modernity. The texts which specifically discuss the exhibitions are based on their respective catalogues and on how they were broadcast by mainstream media. In the final section, we discuss Tarsila's and Frida's representativeness, the Latin American context from a decolonial perspective and the importance of expography in the construction of narratives. We conclude by noticing how fundamental it is to reflect about the ways exhibitions are important communication venues that shape social imagination, having the power to affect the acceptance of cultural productions from a region in the system's periphery.
