Abstract in English
This dissertation intends to analyze the trajectory of the Frente Amplio and its 15 years in the Presidency of Uruguay, between 2005 and 2020. The appearance of the coalition, in 1971, took place after a decade of attempts to bring together progressive and left-wing parties. It was a long experience of negotiations, concessions and political maturity. After three decades disputing the elections with the traditional blancos and colorados (Partido Nacional and Partido Colorado, respectively), the FA conquered the national executive and remained there for three consecutive terms, with uninterrupted economic growth and indisputable social gains. Understanding the legacy of the Uruguayan left, especially from a socioeconomic point of view, for Latin America is also one of the objectives of this study.
