Professor Reflexivo

Reflective teacher
Abstract in English
The dissatisfaction in the teaching/learning process is caused, in most cases, by the lack of effectiveness of the learning process. However, changes are hard since they take teachers out of their comfort zone. These changes will be easier when met with motivated professionals open to new methods. The reflective teacher is the one that is ready to change the way he teaches when realizing that the current methodology is not achieving the desired results. This study presents the use of Conceptual Maps (CM) as a new teaching tool, in light of the richness of benefits that they present when representing the mapper's knowledge and allowing effective learning. This work is based in a case study of two postgrad chemistry professors from University of São Paulo. Four interviews were conducted at different times (before the action, during action and afterwards). The interviews were transcribed as Conceptual Maps and validated by two specialists. Data analysis was conducted using the "variable teaching", comparing the subject profiles and their reflection along the way, to evaluate the challenges found during the process of implementing a change and a reflection during the action and about the action.
