Abstract in English
Currently, the importance of student protagonism in their learning process has been em-phasized. Many works have been carried out with this intention, but few mention the need to consult them when carrying out some pedagogical proposal. The objective of this work was to investigate the views, concerns and actions of some high school students from a list containing several socio-scientific themes, through a closed Likert-type questionnaire. In addition to identifying the distinctions of these opinions regarding gender, and school year of the participants, as well as the opinions of students who appreciate and reject Chemistry. The questionnaire was applied to 200 high school students from 4 cities in the state of São Paulo. The results indicated that high school students relate chemistry to the development of new drugs. They valued the discipline and experimental activities, howe-ver, this appreciation is not reflected in the students' appreciation of the discipline nor in their interest in pursuing a career in the area, as they recognize the difficulty of studying it, where women indicated that they make more effort to understand the discipline. The concerns presented are related to the sustainability of the planet, health, economy and violence. Where women were more concerned with the situations presented, such as the increase in dam failures. The topic of greatest interest to students is the human body, where women tend to be interested in cosmetics, drugs and chemical products most used by society. The topic of least interest indicated by the students is agriculture. The actions that the students indicated to perform most frequently are to avoid wasting food, avoid smoking, avoid drinking alcohol, avoid using illicit drugs and collecting the garbage when they go to concerts. Women indicated to buy cosmetics that were not tested on animals, men indicated to practice physical activity regularly. The contextualization in a STS pers-pective, can approach congruent themes between the scientific world and the daily life of the students, in order to mobilize them in the transformation of their social reality. For this, it is necessary for the teacher to know not only the daily life of their students, but their experience and idiosyncrasies to understand the real situation in which they are in-serted. In this way, he will be able to prepare a plan focused on the demands of his stu-dents, teaching not only Chemistry, but how to exercise his citizenship in an unequal and constantly changing world, seeking collective and personal aspirations of his students to help in the mitigation of the current problems of our society.
