A tese de doutorado aqui apresentada consiste na tradução de alguns contos do livro Contos Amazônicos, de Inglês de Sousa, autor oitocentista da literatura brasileira. Neste trabalho, eles foram traduzidos ao nheengatu e ao espanhol e, nela, também há as pesquisas e hipóteses que fundamentaram as escolhas tradutórias ao nheengatu. O resultado desta pesquisa se enquadra no conceito de traduzir com o objetivo de fortalecer a língua/cultura-alvo e foi concebido como um potencial auxílio no desenvolvimento de uma literatura escrita em nheengatu, a fim de fomentar o corpora de traduções existentes nessa língua, visto que isso pode ser fundamental para a sobrevivência desse idioma ao longo das próximas décadas. Ademais, conta com um apêndice em que se pode encontrar os mesmos contos também traduzidos ao espanhol. Há intenção futura de que publiquemos uma edição trilíngue para ser distribuída na região de São Gabriel da Cachoeira, cidade na qual o espanhol, o português e o nheengatu convivem no cotidiano do indígena e do ribeirinho amazônico da tríplice fronteira. É também intuito que, num momento adiante, realizemos pesquisa acadêmico-científica de pósdoutorado responsável a fim de tecer os comentários ilustrando dificuldades e particularidades para traduzir ao espanhol os mesmos contos, razão pela qual apresentamos os contos traduzidos a esse outro idioma nesta tese de doutorado.

The doctoral thesis herein presented consists of the translation of some tales from the book Contos Amazônicos (Amazonian Tales), by Inglês de Sousa, a Brazilian literature nineteenth-century author. In this paper, the tales have been translated into Nheengatu and Spanish, and it also contains some research and hypotheses on which the translation choices to Nheengatu were grounded. The result of that research fits into the concept of translating with an aim of strengthening the target language/culture and was conceived as a potential aid in the development of a literature written in Nheengatu and to foster the corpora of existing translations into that language, since this may be fundamental for the survival of that language over the coming decades. Additionally, this paper has an appendix in which one can find the same tales translated into Spanish. In the future, we intend to publish a trilingual edition to be distributed in the region of São Gabriel da Cachoeira, a town in which Spanish, Portuguese and Nheengatu coexist in the daily lives of the indigenous people and of the Amazon riverside population of the tri-border area. It is also our intention that in a farther future, we carry out some academic-scientific post-doctoral research in charge of making comments illustrating the difficulties and particulars in translating the same tales into Spanish, for which reason we also present the tales translated into that other language in this thesis
