Abstract in English
This master’s dissertation aims to investigate the translational characteristics and strategies of translations into Portuguese of the novel The Vegetarian (2007), by the writer Han Kang. The study adopts an interdisciplinary approach, considering the linguistic, cultural, and historical-social aspects, through the comparison of translations with the oeuvre, within the scope of Descriptive Translation Studies, and using Corpus Linguistics tools to support the analyses. The theoretical reflection ranges from Walter Benjamin to Jacques Derrida, as well as in the light of Gilles Deleuze, in thinking about the possibility of non-representational translation, and reflects on the translational relationship of creative translation with the source text. Through cultural aspects of the novel, the research discusses extratextual aspects that influence readings and points out limitations and difficulties of discursive reproduction in literary translation.
