Vasili Shukshin
Abstract in English
Vasili Makarovich Shukshin (1929-1974) was born in distant Altai, Siberia, in the Soviet Union. Writer, director, screenwriter, actor and scenic designer, he is the author of more than a hundred short stories, of which only one had been translated into Portuguese until the present research. Although little known in Brazil, Shukshin's literary production is widely read and discussed in Russia to the present day. Thus, this research aims to present a part of his work, an overview of his Poetics and a more in-depth study of one of the most important elements in all narratives: the characters. For this purpose, a corpus composed of five short stories written by Shukshin between the years 1964 and 1970, namely Selskie jiteli (1962), Tchudik (1967), Zemliaki (1968), Mikroskop (1969) e Srezal (1970), was translated from Russian into Portuguese. The translation is accompanied by a commentary on the characters in order to understand to what extent they correspond to the exemplary character of Socialist Realism, the positive hero, in addition to the author's relationship with the so-called rural prose.
