Abstract in English
This master's research outlined within the Humanities, Rights and Other Legitimacies Program, in the Corporalities, alterities, territories and modes of existence research line, deals with the memories and narratives of two female Capoeira masters, Master Janja and Master Edna Lima, with different paths and styles, brought through oral interviews, observing their trajectories and the strategies of permanence and resistance in this still masculinized and sexist universe. It was intended to bring the knowledge, the enchantments and the sense of struggle present in the oral narratives and expressions/performances of these women who have in common the experiences of more than four decades in this practice. These narratives of memory and testimony helped compose the theoretical body of the non-narrated, as resistance to silencing, dialoguing with the voices of women who deal with oral history and gender and race issues, and also with research by female authors of Capoeira who discuss Capoeira and gender. The chapters bring a discussion about memory, women and Capoeira, the life stories of the masters with their paths in the small and big circle, terms that mean, respectively, the circle of Capoeira and life, raising the difficulties of being a woman in Capoeira , the symbolic and physical violence of gender, accompanying the reflection about the knowledge and resistance built by them that persisted in this practice. This discussion was carried out in the light of the methodological route of Oral History, with the commitment to sensitive and respectful listening
