Abstract in English
The present doctoral thesis develops a reflection on labor, education and culture in examining the conditions and aspirations of a segment of youth belonging to a part of the working class identified as the hard-working Brazilians. For this purpose, our research, considering a varied bibliography and the corporate advance into education, analyzed a group of former public high school and SENAI technical school system students in the city of Poços de Caldas, especially by means of questionnaires and interviews, to understand the journeys of these young people during basic schooling, their perceptions on education, the manifest ideological influences, affections, dilemmas and concrete daily conditions. The study developed alongside the hard-working youth allowed us to discuss the contradictions present, especially in regard to abilities and competencies-based education in the context of the advance of neoliberal capitalist ideologies derived from the theory of human capital. Finally, we examined the possibilities of insurgency, taking into consideration these contradictions, highlighting the irreducibility of human work and its constant potential for progressive transformation.
