Abstract in English
This paper intends to discuss through the case study of the Federal University of Latin American Integration - UNILA, the need to discuss public policies of insertion and permanence for transgender people in higher education. The choice to carry out this research in this institution was due to its mission to promote the integration of the Latin American peoples, supported by the interest in seeking cultural understanding, overcoming prejudice and ethnocentrism. Thus, we wondered how a university with an educational project with such inclusive parameters would be inserting trans people. From the interviews with students of the institution, as well as with the trans community of Foz do Iguaçu, we propose to understand the project and the practice of this institution, as well as the territory, since the region where it is located in itself, it already raises numerous studies. The field thus realized not only demonstrated that transphobic practices permeate the territory, but also institutions such as health and education. Therefore, the objective of this research was to highlight the need and urgency to follow affirmative action public policies, in order not only to insert this population, but also to curb the constant transphobic practices that occur within academic spaces.
