'Adab é considerada uma palavra-chave na cultura islâmica medieval, que reflete o gradual desenvolvimento da civilização árabe e o aumento de seu horizonte cultural. Uma palavra extremamente rica e polissêmica, que remete a um conjunto de noções e conceitos, desenvolvidos nos séculos VII-XV, e, por isso, pode sozinha designar: educação, regras de conduta, cultura, savoir-faire, elegância, belles-lettres. Trata-se de um conceito central na compreensão da literatura árabe, tais características reforçam a importância de estudos sobre o 'adab. Desse modo, esta tese visa contribuir com a pesquisa referente a esse tema, ampliando sua compreensão a partir do contato com outros estudos que vêm sendo realizados. Inspirados nesses estudos, e verificando as possibilidades de cada abordagem, constatamos que ainda não havia sido realizado um trabalho minucioso de busca e análise desse termo em histórias do Livro das Mil e Uma Noites, considerando a amplitude de sentidos do 'adab que as histórias poderiam evocar. Examinando o preâmbulo do Livro das Mil e Uma Noites verifica-se a adoção de um modelo, onde as "histórias são plenas de 'adab". Assim, esta tese representa um esforço na observação dessas histórias, que busca tornar possível perceber como o paradigma do 'adab se faz presente no Livro das Mil e Uma Noites.

'Adab is considered a key word in medieval Islamic culture, which reflects the gradual development of Arab civilization and the broadening of its cultural horizon. An extremely rich and polysemic word, which refers to a set of notions and concepts born in the centuries VII-XV. Therefore, it can single-handedly designate: education, rules of conduct, culture, savoir-faire, elegance, belles-lettres. It is a central concept in the understanding of Arabic literature, such characteristics reinforce the importance of studies on the 'adab. Thus, this thesis aims to contribute to research related to this topic, expanding its understanding from the contact with other studies that have been carried out. Inspired by these studies, and verifying the possibilities of each approach, we found that a thorough search and analysis of this term had not yet been carried out in stories from the book Arabian Nights, considering the breadth of meanings of the 'adab that stories could evoke. Examining the preamble of the Arabian Nights, it is verified the adoption of a model, where the "stories are full of 'adab". Thus, this thesis represents an effort in the observation of these stories, which seeks to make it possible to perceive how the 'adab paradigm is presented in the Arabian Nights.
