Abstract in English
This dissertation aims to highlight the characteristics that define the discourse of Arab poetic modernity present in the moment of stylistic renewal of this poetry, which is revealed during the 1940s and 1950s initially in Baghdad, then reverberating in Palestine, Egypt, Syria and Lebanon, with emphasis on activities around the Free Verse Movement and Šiᶜr Magazine. Along with the research, a selection of poems from the book Song of Mihyar, the Damascen (1961) will be translated, looking for a language in Portuguese that represents modernist aspects of the poems in Arabic, adapting to what is understood in Portuguese language literature as modern and innovative poetry.
