Emilie Sugai (1965-) é uma coreógrafa, performer e dançarina de butô que adotou Takao Kusuno (1945-2001) - artista visual e diretor japonês que desenvolveu o butô no Brasil - como mestre, trabalhando com ele por dez anos - de 1991 a 2001 -, sendo a artista mais comprometida e que se empenhou durante mais tempo de maneira ininterrupta com o diretor. Já como artista independente, Sugai sempre teve como base os ensinamentos de Kusuno para criar seus espetáculos, como consequência, tornou-se expoente no cenário do butô no Brasil, além de ter dado continuidade ao legado de Takao Kusuno. Partindo da premissa de que o butô de Sugai apresenta um caminho próprio de experiências de butô, estabeleceu-se como objetivo dessa investigação: analisar, a partir do resgate biográfico de Emilie Sugai, como ela lidou com as múltiplas alteridades que reverberaram em suas obras. Concluiu-se que as estratégias adotadas por essa artista para lidar com a alteridade revelaram o caminho singular explorado nas experiências com a dança butô, bem como os diferentes processos criativos acionados a partir da diferença - sem perder certas especificidades do butô -, o que assegurou o processo evolutivo da própria linguagem poética ao invés da cópia de um modelo estético.

Emilie Sugai (1965-) is a choreographer, performer and butoh dancer who adopted Takao Kusuno (1945-2001) - japanese visual artist and director who developed butoh in Brazil - as a master, working with him for ten years - from 1991 to 2001 -, becoming the most committed artist and the one who endured the longest uninterruptedly work with the director. As an independent artist, Sugai always had as a starting point to create her shows the teachings of Kusuno, consequently, she became an exponent in the butoh scene in Brazil, besides that, she gave continuity to the legacy of Takao Kusuno. From the premise that Sugai's butoh presents a unique way of experiences in butoh, it has been established as the goal of this investigation: to analyze, from the biographical rescue of Emilie Sugai, how she dealt with the multiple alterities that reverberated in her work. It can be concluded that the strategies adopted by this artist to deal with the alterity have revealed the singular way explored by the experiences with butoh dance, as well as the different creative processes activated through its uniqueness - without losing the specificities of butoh -, what assured the evolutive process of the poetic language itself and not just a copy of an esthetical model.
