Na linguística ocidental, o conceito de cópula se refere a elementos, tais como o verbo ser do português, cuja função seria a de exercer uma ligação entre o sujeito da frase e um predicado de natureza nominal. Na língua japonesa, construções desse tipo costumam conter a presença de elementos tais como da e desu, a que alguns gramáticos nativos se referem como dantei no jodôshi ou shitei no jodôshi, entre outras denominações, e que, em trabalhos em língua portuguesa, têm sido apresentados como auxiliares verbais de asserção. Levando em especial consideração as dificuldades que se impõem à tentativa de conciliação entre os paradigmas linguísticos ocidentais e a tradição japonesa de estudos vernaculares da língua nativa, representada pelas correntes conhecidas como kokugogaku e nihongogaku, esta pesquisa teve como objetivos: verificar a semelhança entre o funcionamento gramatical dos dantei no jodôshi e os de conceitos semelhantes da tradição ocidental de estudos linguísticos, como a cópula e os verbos de ligação; a compreensão dos diferentes elementos referidos como dantei no jodôshi, buscando descrever como se deu a sua formação, assim como esclarecer os diferentes efeitos produzidos por sua utilização; a revisão das diferentes terminologias utilizadas para se referir a esses elementos, além de suas possíveis traduções em língua portuguesa. Como resultados, foi possível: 1 compreender a classe gramatical que os japoneses reconhecem como jodôshi, da qual os dantei no jodôshi seriam um subtipo, como sendo elementos auxiliares que acrescentam sentidos como tempo e aspecto ao predicado; 2 compreender o conceito a que os japoneses se referem por dantei como a expressão de um posicionamento do falante atestando a validade do enunciado, de maneira semelhante à noção de juízo assertivo da filosofia ocidental; 3 compreender, em perspectiva diacrônica, a evolução do predicado nominal da língua japonesa a partir do desenvolvimento dos dantei no jodôshi; 4 captar a natureza dos diferentes tipos de dantei no jodôshi, analisando-se suas formas de utilização e esclarecendo, em alguma medida, seu comportamento de atuar, em determinadas situações, como elementos de modalidade

In western linguistics, the concept of copula refers to items, such as the English verb be, whose function would be operating a connection between the subject of the sentence and a noun type predicate. In Japanese language, such constructions normally contain items such as da or desu, to which some native grammars refer as dantei no jodôshi or shitei no jodôshi, among other denominations, which, in Portuguese language works, have been usually presented as assertion verbal auxiliaries. Taking in special account the obstacles that rise when seeking the conciliation of the differences between western linguistics models and the Japanese tradition of vernacular studies of its native language, represented by the branches known as kokugogaku and nihongogaku, this research had the following objectives: check the similarities between the grammatical behavior of the dantei no jodôshi to that of similar concepts of the western tradition of linguistic studies, such as the copula and the linking verbs; the comprehension of the various items referred to as dantei no jodôshi, seeking to describe the process of their formation, as well as the clarification of the different effects that result from their usage; reviewing the various terminologies used to refer to these items, as well as their possible translations to Portuguese language. As results, it was possible to: 1 comprehend the grammatical class that the Japanese recognize as jodôshi, of which the dantei no jodôshi would be seen as a subtype, as auxiliary items that add features such as tense and aspect to the predicate; 2 comprehend the concept to which the Japanese refer to as dantei as being the expression of an attitude of the speaker attesting the validity of the content of the enunciation, in a similar way as the notion of assertive judgement from the western philosophy; 3 comprehend, in diachronic perspective, the evolution of Japanese language nominal predicate, from the development of the dantei no jodôshi; 4 capture the nature of the different types of dantei no jodôshi, analyzing their forms of use and clarifying, to some extent, their behavior of acting, in certain situations, as items of modality.
