O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar O Conto da Princesa Kaguya, último filme do renomado diretor de animação e cofundador do Studio Ghibli Isao Takahata (1935-2018), a partir do prisma de um discurso animista desenvolvido no Japão a partir da segunda metade do século XX. Esse discurso desafiou alguns fundamentos da modernidade, como a dicotomia natureza-humanidade derivada do pensamento cartesiano e a teoria do desencantamento do mundo proposta por Max Weber, e também esteve relacionado à busca por uma identidade nacional japonesa em uma época de incertezas. A premissa deste trabalho é que, enquanto o estudo do discurso animista japonês pode ajudar na compreensão da obra de Isao Takahata (mais especificamente) e do Studio Ghibli (de forma mais ampla), a análise de O Conto da Princesa Kaguya a partir do discurso animista pode trazer insights sobre a interconexão de relevantes questões contemporâneas, como espiritualidade, nacionalismo e ambientalismo

The objective of this work is to analyze The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, the last film by renowned animation director and co-founder of Studio Ghibli Isao Takahata (1935-2018), from the prism of an animist discourse developed in Japan from the second half of the 20th century. This discourse challenged some foundations of modernity, such as the nature-humanity dichotomy derived from Cartesian thought and the theory of the disenchantment of the world proposed by Max Weber, and was also related to the search for a Japanese national identity in a time of uncertainty. The premise of this work is that, while the study of the Japanese animist discourse may help in understanding the work of Isao Takahata (more specifically) and Studio Ghibli (more broadly), the analysis of The Tale of the Princess Kaguya according to the animist discourse can bring insights into the interconnection of relevant contemporary issues, such as spirituality, nationalism and environmentalism
