Abstract in English
This dissertation propound an interpretation of two of João Paulo Borges Coelhos titles As Duas Sombras do Rio (2003) and As Visitas do Dr. Valdez (2004) in order to analyze how these novels bring to light the issue of the formation of mozambican identity. Thereunto, the novels are confronted from the following aspects: the influence relations raised by the period from 1974 to 1985, covered by the two novels; space and time as decisive structures on the configuration of social relations represented by the storylines. In these ways, it is important to observe how these aspects are articulated to the identity formation in the core of a transition process from the colonial status to the independence, followed by the outbreak of the civil war and how they exert a structuring function of the narratives. It is also discussed to what degree the mozambican author links the space and the time aiming to transgress the widespread official narrative around the idea of nation.
