Abstract in English
The female figure is omnipresent in almost all the literary works. However, the woman in the mother-in-law condition does not seem to awake much attention. The present investigative work searches into understanding, by the comparative exercise, which aspects were privileged by both authors when they put on the stage the woman in the mother-in-law condition at the end of nineteenth century. The books are two narratives of centurial age "The old woman" by the Portuguese author Fialho de Almeida and "A mother in law's book" by the Brazilian writer Aluísio de Azevedo. We are going to centre our look at this fertile period of manifestations and "revolutionary crashes" to try to understand which mother-in-law's figure this period encloses in order to register the existence or not of woman's stereotypes in this condition. Relying ourselves on Julian Marias' theory, we try to think about the woman's crisis in the nineteenth century, and relying on the Bahktin's cronotopo's theory we examine the fictional bipolarity "country and city". The repression and the eroticism are two human problems that have been found and we consider some elements of Freud's psychoanalytic theory in order to understand this situation. To investigate a theme that is not present in the more general interest's horizon can shows us the dialectical synthesis of our human condition
