Este trabalho visa discutir algumas hipóteses sobre as função do sacerdotes na organização do Estado mexica, tema que se encaixa na discussão da história político-religiosa do México Pré-hispânico, sobretudo no Período Pós-clássico tardio. Com esse objetivo são analisadas as práticas dos sacerdotes na organização do culto oficial, indagando sobre o grau de influência ideológica que podiam exercer no âmbito das relações sociais internas e externas de México-Tenochtitlan. Trata-se de entender, com base na análise comparativa das fontes arqueológicas, de que forma os sacerdotes influenciavam a política social e econômica do governo, sob a égide do culto oficial, uma vez que detinham o grau mais elevado de controle da educação e da ideologia da população. Procuramos demonstrar que, na história mexica de ascensão ao poder e à hegemonia, o culto oficial está nos alicerces da economia, do militarismo, da coerção e do controle social, enfim, em todas as esferas cotidianas articuladas pelo comando dos sacerdotes na organização do Estado

The aim of this study is to discuss the hypothesis concerning the role of the priesthood in the mexica State organization, issue that is fitted in the political and historical discussions of Mexican Pre-Hispanic period religion, mainly in the late post classic. Aiming the priesthood practices and official cult organization, our hypothesis were analyzed, in the view of the ideology influence degree they could exercise in the overall external and internal social relationships at Mexico-Tenochtitlan. Based on a comparative analysis we try to understand the archeological sources and how the priesthood could influence the government social politics and economy, under the shelter of official ritual worship of their several gods, inasmuch as they had high level of educational and ideological control of the population. This study focuses on how the mexica history rose to power, to hegemony, and how the official cults were on the grounds of the economy, military policy, coercion and social control, and finally, how the priesthood were linked to all daily areas of the State organization
