O trabalho propõe uma análise do motivo literário do esquecimento na primeira e na segunda parte do Fausto de Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Tentou-se relacionar o esquecimento com diferentes cenas, procurando observar as nuances do olvido e como ele estabelece ligações com outros temas caros à obra do poeta alemão, como o caráter do pacto-aposta, o gênero trágico e a questão existencial do protagonista. Procurou-se associar as diferentes modulações do olvido a teóricos e teorias acerca do assunto e à modernidade, que possui um papel essencial no drama.

This dissertation is an attempt to analyse the literary motif of oblivion in the first and second parts of Johann Wolfgang von Goethe's Faust. The main goal was to relate the forgetfulness to various scenes, by trying to observe the nuances of the oblivion and how it establishes connections to other themes which are dear to the German poet's work, such as the character of the bet-pact, the tragic genre and the existential question of the protagonist. The aim consisted in associating the different ways in which the oblivion was presented with theoreticians and theories about the topic and with modernity, which has an essential role in the drama.
