O presente estudo busca examinar a cinematografia de Joaquim Pedro de Andrade, e o papel decisivo da memória como seu maior impulso criativo, sobretudo a partir da inspiração fundamental de Rodrigo Melo Franco de Andrade, metáfora paterna e intelectual, a nortear sua trajetória de cineasta. Por meio da análise de sua cinematografia mineira, formada pelos filmes O padre e a moça (1965), Os inconfidentes (1972) e O Aleijadinho (1978), investigaremos os elementos formadores de toda sua obra, sempre calcada na observação da cultura e da literatura brasileiras, para uma tradução da identidade nacional, capaz de projetar Minas Gerais, não só como microcosmo do país, mas também como cenário universal.

This research aims to explore the cinematography of Joaquim Pedro de Andrade, and the decisive function of the memory like his main creative impulse, especially from the major inspiration of Rodrigo Melo Franco de Andrade, paternal and intellectual metaphor, orientating his trajectory of filmmaker. Through the analysis of his Minas Cinema (films based on culture of Minas Gerais), formed by the titles O padre e a moça (The priest and the girl), 1965; Os inconfidentes (The conspirators), 1972; and O Aleijadinho (The Aleijadinho), 1978; we will investigate the forming elements of all his work always based on the observation of Brazilian culture and Brazilian literature also, for a translation of the national identity, able to project Minas Gerais, not only like microcosm of the country (Brazil), but also like an universal place.
