Abstract in English
The present study, named Where you were at night: the grotesque experiment, turns to the literary analysis of the book by Clarice Lispector through the grotesque's esthetic category orientation. The book, published in 1974, comprising chiefly short stories and chronicles, is part of the author's latter phase, which consolidates her work as an expressive Brazilian modern literature fiction writer. For such an endeavor, starting with the questioned but brief critical array, one targeted pertinent critical-theoretical paths, from which the grotesque and hybridism of literary genders stand out as guidelines. The correlations between painting and literature are interdisciplinary artistic parts of knowledge lightly contemplated as well. Thus, making use of the distinctive theoretical frameworks of Wolfgang Kayser and Mikhail Bakhtin, we could answer fictional questions raised by the work's reading, trying to account for the characters and voices, texts and intertexts, genders and deformations. The symbolic perspective amplitude was also investigated, through Mircea Eliade's fundamental studies, among other theoretical instruments. Such a study was divided into two parts: in the first one are privileged texts that were shaped more like short stories in their literary gender configurations, and besides the title short story, the old characters in "In search of dignity", "The departure of the train", and "The conjurations of dona Frozina", are also analyzed. In the secondpart, targeting the analyses of the shorter texts which were closer to literary chronicles, as well as their textual migration and collage effects, the readings of "Dry point of horses", "A report on a thing", "Waters of the sea", and "Silence" are prominent, among others
