Este trabalho tem como objetivo analisar e interpretar o romance L'Éducation sentimentale (1869), de Gustave Flaubert A análise privilegia a representação do tempo na Educação e centra-se, portanto, nos recursos literários de que o narrador se serve para figurar uma temporalidade particular: um tempo positivo, necessário e fechado. Essa temporalidade, elemento essencial da fatura do romance, relativo seja à natureza das personagens, seja ao princípio da narrativa, será o objeto da interpretação. Como o narrador pode contar a história da passagem da Monarquia de julho ao Segundo Império, sem determinar mudanças de fundo? E, sobretudo, como a vida dos indivíduos por esse mundo de reviravoltas políticas pode aparecer como um exercício de contínuo esforço em vão? Este trabalho supõe concorrer para isso na Educação, especialmente, os traços da moda, da estandardização e das idéias feitas

Abstract in English
The present work aims to analyse and interpret Gustave Flaubert's novel L'Éducation sentimentale (1869). The analysis privileges the representation of the time in the Education, therefore it is centered on the literary devices the narrator uses to represent a form of time: a positive, necessary and closed time. This temporality, as an essential result of the novel, regarding both to the characters' nature as to the principle of the narrative, is the object of the interpretation. How could the narrator bell the passage of the Monarchy of July to the Second Empire, without determining backgrond changes? And, above all, how could the individuals' life in this world of political upheavals come to nothing? The present work considers the features of the 'accepted ideas', of the standardization and of the fashion, as contributors to those effects of the Education
