Em O Evangelho segundo Jesus Cristo e Caim, José Saramago recria mitos germinantes da cultura judaico-cristã e convida à releitura coletiva da Bíblia, a fim de refletir sobre credos e conceitos que se presentificam, produtos de um modelo que embasou sociedades e ainda determina preceitos morais. Nessa recriação, ocorre a reorganização de valores, pois, com o sagrado, angelical e profético "rebaixados" ao ordinário, são os "malditos" e transgressores que apontam para novas possibilidades nas relações humanas e denunciam o desequilíbrio de poderes. Neste trabalho, identificam-se os procedimentos utilizados pelo autor para a criação de uma alegoria antiautoritarista a partir do pré-texto bíblico, assim como a análise da construção das personagens "malditas", como Caim e Lilith, em Caim, e Diabo e Maria Madalena, em O Evangelho segundo Jesus Cristo. Também se examinam demais personagens e tramas que consubstanciam as narrativas das personagens originalmente amaldiçoadas por Deus e pela história. Tal análise tem como base as relações entre mito e paródia, conforme Frye (2019, 2020) e Hutcheon (1989, 1991), respectivamente, o cotejo com as referências bíblicas, além da revisão da crítica literária pertinente.

In The Gospel According to Jesus Christ and Cain, José Saramago recreates myths of the Judeo-Christian culture and invites a collective reinterpretation of the Bible, in order to reflect on present-day creeds and concepts produced by a model that founded societies and still determines moral precepts. In this recreation, values are rearranged because, once the holy entities, angels and prophets are discredited, the damned characters and transgressors glimpse new possibilities in human relationships and denounce the imbalance of powers. This work aims to identify the procedures used by the author to create an antiauthoritarian allegory based on the biblical pre-text, as well as to analyze the construction of the 'cursed' characters, such as Cain and Lilith, in Cain, and the Devil and Mary Magdalene, in The Gospel According to Jesus Christ. Other characters and plots that constitute the narratives of the characters originally cursed by God and by history are also examined. Such analysis is based on the relationship between myth and parody, according to Frye (2019, 2020) and Hutcheon (1989, 1991), respectively, the comparison with biblical references, in addition to the review of the pertinent literary criticism.
