Esta dissertação busca demonstrar que a novela Amoe de Perdição, de Camilo Castelo Branco, pode ser interpretada numa dupla perspectiva: a dos elementos da tragédia e a do trágico. Verificamos que muitos dos preceitos da Arte Poé-tica, de Aristóteles, podem ser encontrados em Amor de Perdição, apesar de a novela e da tragédia pertencerem a gêneros literários distintos. Percebemos também que a cosmovisão camiliana ex- pressa claramente uma visão trágica da existência humana. Seus fundamentos teóricos são dados por Max Sheler em Le Phénomène du Tragique.

Tuis work intends to demonstrate that the novel Amor de Perdição, by Camilo Castelo Branco, may be interpreted in two ways: first, according to the elements of the tragedy, and, secondly, consider- ing the relation of the novel with the tragic. Many precepts of the Poetics by Aristotle have been found in Amor de Perdição, in spite of the novel and the tragedy being two different literary genders. Besides, Camilo''s world conception has been proved to clearly express a tragic vision of life. The theoretic foundations of our arguments have been given by Max Scheler, in Le Phénomène du Tragique
