Abstract in English
This thesis aims to analyze the textual production of Goan writers Propércia Correia Afonso de Figueiredo (1881-1944) and Maria Ermelinda dos Stuarts Gomes (1889-1937), and to revisit the ones produced by the Brazilian intellectual Maria Lacerda de Moura (1887-1945) and the Portuguese writer and activist Ana de Castro Osório (1872-1935). In doing so, we intend to define the differences and similarities regarding their feminisms, developed in the first half of the 20th century. Thus, our study compares the projects they devise to vindicate women's rights in their works about women, namely Figueiredo's A mulher na Índia Portuguesa (1933); Gomes's A mulher Indiana (1934), Moura's A mulher é uma degenerada (1924) and Osório's Às mulheres portuguesas (1905). Furthermore, through the analysis of their correspondence, we seek to investigate which strategies they adopt both in the writing of their texts and their political action to secure the social change they long for. Our analysis will be supported by the theories developed by Françoise Vergès (2020), María Lugones (2014), Walter Mignolo, Aníbal Quijano (2007), and Yuderkis Espinosa Miñoso (2016). We understand that these theoretical works may contribute to identifying how European feminism tension the modern/colonial world.
