Abstract in English
The impetus for this dissertation is to analyze three tales written by the Brazilian writer Lygia Fagundes Telles - "Dear Editor" (1974), "The corset" ([1991] 2010) and "A white pale shadow" (1995), aiming to delimit the importance of formal choices, such as point of view and vocabulary, which are affected by theme choices. We verified in the corpus that the protagonists embrace socially and morally conservative discourses even though these discourses dont favor them, since they are women living in a patriarchal society. In the study we developed, we identified the suffering of the character's bodies due to imposed limitations by patriarchal values internalized by them. Furthermore, there is an absence of relevant male figures, and the plots are developed with emphasis in the female figures of the teacher, the grandmother and the mother, respectively. In order to understand how these elements are created, in addition to the formal analyses of these literary forms, we worked, mainly, with ideas from Simone de Beauvoir ([1949] 2009), Marilena Chauí (1984), Heleieth I. B. Saffioti (1976), to stablish relations between gender, social power and repression, and Michel Foucault (1984), to reflect upon the importance of discipline and the technologies of the self. We concluded in this research that the images constructed in the tales are not synthetic, but they let glimpse the tensions that expose the problems resulted of a conservative moralization applied to the bodies and the behaviors of the female characters.
