Abstract in English
In December 1968, songwriters Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil were arrested by agents of the Brazilian military dictatorship, in the aftermath of Ato Institucional n° 5, which enabled the escalate of authoritarian acts by the military government in the late sixties in Brazil. After 54 days of imprisonment and four more months in home confinement in Salvador, Bahia, the musicians were exiled from Brazil, in July 1969, being authorized to return only in early 1972. Considering the ideas of Santuza Cambraia Naves and José Miguel Wisnik which concern the studies in Brazilian popular music as a starting point, as well as the work of critic and essayist Flora Süssekind, this research reflects on how the arbitrary acts and persecutions perpetrated by the military regime caused a fraction in Brazilian arts and culture in general and particularly in Tropicalism, due to the exile of its two main characters. Through detained analysis of the songs comprised in the three albums written by Caetano Veloso in that period: Caetano Veloso (1969), Caetano Veloso (1971) and Transa (1972) this work intends to comprehend how they express a poetics of exile
