Keywords in Portuguese
Collage
Escrita automática
Imagem poética
Sergio Lima
Surrealismo

Abstract in English
This dissertation aims to conduct a study of Sergio Lima's early poetic works based on three publications: Cantos à Mulher Nocturna (2009), a gathering of eight automatic writing notebooks written in 1957, "A Planície Verde" (1960), a short story classified as "science-fiction" by the author, published in the first issue of the film magazine Delírio, and Amore (1963), the poet's debut book, edited and published by Massao Ohno. This period (1957-1963) in which Lima's life and poetic production are closely linked allows us to glimpse a work marked by the presence of automatic writing and collage as idealized by Surrealism. In order to elucidate this poetic path, we resort to the poet's biographical data, information about his relationship with his fellow artists, examples of his plastic work, and a detailed reading of his writings. In conclusion, it is verified how the practice of automatic writing and collage, the first based on a method of capturing and recording, and the second on a procedure of selection and assembly, indicates a process of depuration in the poet's vision and triggers a torrent of poetic images that, in turn, becomes the full exaltation of love and life.
