Abstract in English
The present work proposes to investigate the relation between space and restlessness pointed out by Antonio Candido in Carlos Drummond de Andrade´s poetic body of work aiming at identifying its different textual developments in three poems by the author published in books from distinct periods: "Explicação" from "Alguma poesia" (1930) as representative of the poet´s initial lyrics in its original environment and marked by the influence of theoretical assumptions from the first Modernism in Brazil; "A Bruxa" from "José"(1942) written in Rio de Janeiro and approaching an individual´s loneliness in the big city and, "Relógio do Rosário", the final poem from "Claro Enigma" (1951), which is of philosophical nature and apart from mundane elements, and has Itabira´s central square as its main scenario. This dissertation establishes that there is an approximation between the concept of restlessness forged by Antonio Candido and the idea of pain and suffering and it investigates this very relation in each one of the poems mentioned above pointing out its developments and considering the context in which they are inserted and the relation they each maintain with space. As conclusion it is identified that the texts present very different reflexes of manifestations of restlessness, which vary from irony, pain and comprehension. Nonetheless, in all of these manifestations, despite the chronological distance among the poems, space plays a decisive role. Besides Antonio Candido, John Gledson, and the exchanged correspondence between Drummond and Mario de Andrade - organized in Lelia Coelho Frota´s research - are significant references in the reflections developed herein.
