Abstract in English
This dissertation proposes an analytical interpretive reading of the book Cacau (1933), by Jorge Amado. First, through the analysis of the language used in the novel, it aims to understand how the narrator's social position reverberates in his writing. Then, it analyses spaces, characters and the plot of the novel, suggesting that the same logic used in the language reaches the other elements of the book. Finally, the dissertation argues that the novel's weakness can be seen as expressions of both the difficulties of building a proletarian novel in Brazil and the formalization of a specific historical experience.
