This master's thesis aims to introduce the relationship between image and word, henceforth parole in colour, in Michel Butor's oeuvre. This is a study on the relationship between authorial images and Butor's creations. The analysis departs, therefore, from discussing and co-constructing an image of the self (YANOSHEVSKY 2011, 2014, 2018) in two literary interviews (out of the many given by the author): one from 1963, La leçon de Proust selon Michel Butor, and another from 2013, À double titre - Michel Butor. Afterwards, these images of the self are contrasted and co-constructed across the period of fifty years that separates one interview from the other, with compositional elements from his works La Modification (BUTOR, 1980 [1957]) and organisational ones in a collection of Butor's complete works that includes Mobile. Étude pour une représentation des États-Unis (BUTOR, 2007a [1962]), considered the central focus of analysis. Finally, the fictionalisation of a literary interview that composes the movie Michel Butor Mobile (COULIBEUF, 2001) is analysed, in which Mireille Calle-Gruber e Michel Butor act; an analysis of the female body in the transposition of Butor's experimental writing into film is also included. The central research question to be answered tentatively is: what is the relationship between the voice and Butor's practice of painting with words? Yet more specifically: what is the relationship of these co-construed images in both selected interviews with literary creation in the works La Modification (BUTOR, 1980 [1957]) and Mobile (BUTOR, 2007a [1962])? How do both works relate to the movie Michel Butor Mobile (COULIBEUF, 2001)? In the first interview, these images are co-construed as the writer's reaction to a single question posed by the interviewer that bonds, through linking argumentative techniques, Butor's ethos to Proust's own ethé to that of the ideal reader, who would only find in Proust's novel a sense of contentment, ecstasy, and wonderment. Based on arguments of dissociation, Butor introduces his ethé: reader and dedicated reader, apt to overcome his own hardship for literature; a devoted and humble student in front of his master (although, at the time, he was already critically and publicly acclaimed); a writer-builder, who would have learned from Proust how to erect a book. On the second interview, on the other hand, the image of the writer is co-construed both through argumentative dissociative elements and through argumentative analogies and linking. The space of imagetic co-construction is, therefore, of great importance exactly due to the constant presence of the interviewer, who brings to the enunciative scene several pieces of information on the author that would not be part of the interview if it were not for her. Butor's creation has kept in touch with cultural changes, incorporating audio-visual media as literary practices, and it has established new possibilities for artistic partnerships, including film-makers, like in Coulibeuf's movie (2001), in turn recreating literary experimentation through the screen and the fictionalisation of the writer's image by means of performance. It is at that frontier space that Butor finds and expresses himself. It is thus that he frames his literary experimentation.
