Abstract in English
Analysis of the dialogic relations of José Geraldo Vieira's (1897-1977) novels Terreno Baldio (Vacant Lot) and Território Humano (Human Territory) with France and its writers Marcel Proust and André Gide. After an introduction to the author and his work, dealing with the author's characteristics as well as his position in the context of Brazilian Literature, we tackled (1) the cosmopolitan aspect of the author and his work, as well as the impact of the belle époque in Terreno Baldio; (2) recovery of the past in Território Humano, through voluntary and involuntary memory, the latter as a projection of Proust's work; and (3) by means of an intertextual triad involving (a) the "Parable of the Prodigal Son" according to the Gospel of Luke, (b) Gide's version in his novel Le Retour de l'Enfant Prodigue; and (c) the narrative of the sonnet entitled "The Return of the Prodigal Son" as well as that of a future novel about the prodigal son's "itinerary´, both conceived by the character-writer of Human Territory, which characterizes fiction inside fiction
