Abstract in English
This work analyzes aspects of a significant period in the grammatization process of Spanish as a foreign language in Brazil, reviewing the production of textbooks and, particularly, the books aimed at non-formal education. We study the social-historical conjuncture and the changes in the editorial market seeking to understand a specific moment in this process: the last decade of the 20th century and the first one of the 21st. In this period there was a significant growth in the demand for the language, fact which triggered the production and circulation of new books. This way, we map the arrival of Spanish productions in Brazil, the possible effects that this arrival provokes in the domestic editorial sector, and the series of transformations that over these twenty years delineate increasingly specific teaching areas (formal and non-formal alike) and an editorial market partitioned in the editorial productions that serve each one of these areas. Understanding the books as linguistic instruments and discursive objects in which images about the teaching process, the own language and about the apprentice are projected, we focus on the textbook called Gente, published by Difusión editors (Barcelona, Spain). At the first moment we analyze the 1997 edition cover and the remodeling that occurred in 2004 and 2007, observing the transformations of the different significant materialities (verbal and non-verbal); this analysis leads us to interrogate about the contradictions that appear when a Spanish course for Brazilians (the 2007 book production subheading) joins the Common European Framework of Reference for languages: Learning, teaching, assessment (2001). At the second moment, the analysis detects how the spaces to which the Spanish language is attached are projected inside the book, anticipated in the Introduction as the regions and the societies where Spanish is spoken. The results make us declare that what materializes in this instrument is the projection of an imagined community, one in which Spain plays a central role: the hispanofonia.
