Throughout the history of graphic narratives in Brazil, the cultural exchanges carried out between the Brazilian and Hispanic-American polysystems have remained on the sidelines of central systems. In these central systems, the translations of American and Japanese comics dominate because together they represent in volume around 80% of comic book publications in Brazil (ASSIS, 2020; RAMOS, 2008). Will translations of Spanish-American graphic narratives be eternally relegated to the periphery of the Brazilian graphic narratives polysystem (hereafter BP)? One assumes that polysystems are dynamic and heterogeneous, that intra and intersystemic changes come from the peripheries (EVEN-ZOHAR, 1990), and that the logic of domination-exploitation also permeates the relationships established within the BP, under the patriarchal order of gender (SAFFIOTI, 2004). In this thesis, translations of graphic narratives created by Hispanic-American women published in Brazil between the years 2000 and 2020 are placed at the center of the historiographical narration. In particular, this investigation focuses on the characteristics that fostered the reception of Maitena, Argentinian, and PowerPaola, Ecuadorian-Colombian, considering their great representation within the market. Describing the trajectories of these two comic artists I identify which cultural relationships and exchanges enabled them to forge a central position both in the "universal" BP ("the central"), and in the comics created by women ("the specific"). Initially, a review of the academic literature and specialized websites is carried out, in order to identify in them the dimension of the historical representation of Hispanic-American comic artists and productions, as well as female comic artists, researchers and characters. Hence, questioning central and peripheral positions of institutions (publishers, Academy, etc.), of products (translated and national), and of canonized and non-canonized repertoires, the "universality" that commonly governs historiographical graphic narratives is put in check in parallel to the identifications (HALL, 2006) of foreignness and nationality (VÁZQUEZ, 2010) present in them. Finally, the central and peripheral positions are analyzed in relation to the recent contexts of mainstrean and independent productions (PAZ, 2017), also integrating the experiences of the translators. In summary, historiographing Maitena and PowerPaola showed a galaxy of possibilities for interaction between Brazilian and Hispanic-American women in graphic narratives. Sorority has been put in the everyday practice by these women and has also reflected in their translation and publication. Beyond the implied boundaries of national identifications, both comic artists arrived at the centers because they were women. Maitena opened spaces for creation for other comic artists in the Brazilian polysystem. In turn, PowerPaola conquered space by expanding the possibilities of graphic narration about the self. In positions sometimes central, sometimes peripheral, the Brazilian graphic narratives polysystem starts to glimpse identities without borders, sin fronteras.
