Intertextualidade
Saxo Gramático

Abstract in English
The present research aims to investigate certain allusive, or intertextual, processes in the prologue as well as in the books I-IV of Gesta Danorum, a history of Denmark written by Saxo Grammaticus in the turn of the twelfth and thirteenth centuries. Starting from a study on the poems from the first and second books and on several ekphrases found in the prologue and next four books, we argue that allusion in this text goes beyond the simple citation of models, being, in its form, more complex and producing meanings that are revealed only intertextually, i.e., in confrontation with its models, and intratextually, that is to say, in relation to other passages of the text itself. The analysis is followed by a translation, the first ever in Portuguese, of the prologue and, equally, of books I to IV of the Gesta Danorum, this thesis objects of study.
