Hino a Zeus

Abstract in English
Cleanthes of Assos, Stoa's second scholarch after its founder death, kept developing and divulging the Zeno's theories. Although actual textual evidences of his intellectual activities are meager, he studied every Stoic discipline. And Cleanthean corpus provide with proof thereof. It is composed of direct, indirect citations, poems, his opinions, arguments, rationales, epitomized accounts and anecdotes about him and the "Hymn to Zeus", only Ancient Stoic text handed down in its entirety. Some of his contributions deserve more attention from modern scholarship, such as the cosmogony of elements and cosmic cycles, the concept of οἰκείωσις, the theodicy embedded in his "Hymn", his comments, corrections and paraphrasing of earlier authors, his rhetoric. The main aim of this Thesis is to exhibit a wide view of his thought. In order to do so it is necessary to assess the corpus aforementioned, translating it for the first time to the Portuguese.
