A presente dissertação tem como foco a tragédia Prometeu Acorrentado de Ésquilo e seus tradutores no Brasil, dentre os quais destacamos dois: Dom Pedro II, o último Imperador do Brasil, e João Cardoso de Menezes e Souza, o Barão de Paranapiacaba. O trabalho está estruturado e dividido em três partes, a saber: 1) transcrição integral da tradução feita por Dom Pedro II da tragédia Prometeu Acorrentado e das duas versões poéticas feitas pelo Barão de Paranapiacaba, as quais foram incentivadas pelo próprio Imperador; 2) cotejo crítico entre a Tradução Imperial e as duas versões poéticas feitas pelo Barão; 3) um levantamento das traduções do Prometeu Acorrentado publicadas no Brasil e de seus respectivos tradutores.

This dissertation focuses on the Aeschylus' tragedy Prometheus Bound and its translators in Brazil; among which we highlight two: Dom Pedro II, the last emperor of Brazil, and João Cardoso de Menezes e Souza, Baron of Paranapiacaba. The work is structured and divided into three parts, namely: 1) full transcript of the translation made by Dom Pedro II of the tragedy Prometheus Bound and the two poetic versions made by the Baron of Paranapiacaba, which were encouraged by the Emperor himself; 2) critical comparison of the translation and the two poetic versions made by Baron; 3) a survey of the translations of Prometheus Bound published in Brazil and of the respective translators.
