Abstract in English
Justifiably, much research has been conducted around the fact that Virgil's Aeneid is the main model of composition for Camões' Os Lusíadas. However, the other two poems by Virgil, the Eclogues and the Georgics, are also present in Camões' epic, and it is safe to say that Camonian criticism has overlooked these cases of classical reception. In my thesis I investigate the tripartite presence of Virgil in Os Lusíadas with emphasis on the workings of the three Virgilian genres in Camões' poem. The analysis of instances of interaction between Os Lusíadas and each of Virgil's poems allowed me to propose interpretations about the meaningful functioning of Virgilian texts and genres in Camões' epic. As regards the allusion to Virgil's non-heroic poems, I described the generic mixture phenomenon and its meaningful implications. Finally, this investigation led me to demonstrate that, by displaying generic complexity and containing allusion to the Eclogues and the Georgics, Camões follows in yet another way heroic Virgil, whose Aeneid is itself generically complex.
