A narrativa ficcional conhecida como Atos de Xantipa, Políxena e Rebeca foi composta em data incerta na Antiguidade Tardia, provavelmente entre os séculos IV e V de nossa era. Seu enredo pode ser dividido em duas partes, de vinte e uma seções cada. A primeira narra a conversão de Xantipa ao cristianismo e as provações que ela enfrenta até a conversão de seu marido, um homem importante da região da Hispânia. A segunda narra as aventuras da virgem Políxena, irmã de Xantipa, e o seu encontro com Rebeca em terras distantes, em uma sequência de raptos, desencontros e livramentos miraculosos. Apesar de se tratar de um testemunho antigo de valores e práticas do cristianismo primitivo, que claramente incorpora elementos dos romances gregos do período imperial, pouca atenção foi destinada à composição desde a publicação da edição de seu texto, em 1893. Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho é apresentar um estudo da relação entre os Atos de Xantipa, Políxena e Rebeca e o romance antigo e oferecer uma tradução diretamente do texto grego da obra para o português.

The fictional narrative known as the Acts of Xanthippe, Polyxena, and Rebecca was composed at an uncertain date in Late Antiquity, probably between the fourth and fifth centuries of our era. Its plot can be divided into two parts, of twenty-one sections each. The first narrates the conversion of Xanthippe to Christianity and the trials she faces until the conversion of her husband, an important man from the region of Hispania. The second recounts the adventures of the virgin Polyxena, sister of Xanthippe, and her encounter with Rebecca in distant lands, in a sequence of kidnappings, mismatches and miraculous deliverances. Although it is an ancient testimony concerning the values and practices of early Christianity, clearly incorporating elements of Greek novels of the imperial period, little attention has been paid to the composition since the publication of the edition of the text, in 1893. Thus, this dissertation presents a translation of this narrative from Greek to Portuguese and a study of the relationship between the Acts of Xanthippe, Polyxena, and Rebecca and the ancient novel
