Nesta dissertação, investiga-se a abordagem das orações subordinadas adverbiais em dois livros didáticos do novo ensino médio aprovados pelo Programa Nacional do Livro Didático de Língua Portuguesa/PNLD (2021). Os manuais aprovados seguem as diretrizes apontadas pela Base Nacional Comum Curricular/BNCC (2018) para o ensino médio que aponta, no trabalho com a gramática, as práticas de análise linguística geraldiana (2004 [1984]). De forma a atingir esse objetivo, três perguntas são norteadoras: (1) Considerando-se o ensino a partir do texto/dos gêneros, como articular a gramática com a leitura e a produção de textos?; (2) Como o ensino da sintaxe, algo tão estrutural da língua, está encaminhado para o estudante nos materiais didáticos aprovado pelo INEP?; (3) O ensino das orações subordinadas adverbiais nas propostas didáticas de língua em uso nos manuais Multiversos: língua portuguesa (CAMPOS; ODA, 2020) e Linguagens em interação: língua portuguesa (CHINAGLIA, 2020) visa o incremento da leitura e produção textual do aluno ou o trabalho com a metalinguagem? A concepção sociológica e dialógica da língua/linguagem de Bakhtin e o Círculo (VOLÓCHINOV, 2018 [1929], 2019 [1930]; BAKHTIN, 2008 [1963] e os conceitos bakhtiniano de estilística (BAKHTIN, 2013 [1940]) e de gêneros do discurso (MEDVIÉDEV, 2019 [1928]); BAKHTIN, 2019 [1952/53]) fundamentaram teórico-metodologicamente esta dissertação. Desse modo, examinam-se as propostas de ensino das orações subordinadas adverbiais nos livros didáticos selecionados, a fim de verificar se em tais obras prioriza-se a compreensão do uso dessas orações no discurso, isto é, de modo articulado à leitura e a produção textual do aluno, ou o estudo metalinguístico de sua estrutura gramatical isolada. Os resultados indicam que o trabalho com a leitura e compreensão dos textos aproxima-se da abordagem da análise linguística, o ensino das orações subordinadas adverbiais, por sua vez, ocorre nos limites da oração, desconsiderando a relação estilo-gramática e texto-gramática, não contribuindo com a compreensão do estudante acerca do papel dessas orações subordinadas adverbiais e seus efeitos de sentido nos textos.

This dissertation investigates the treatment of adverbial subordinate clauses in two recently approved high school textbooks by the Programa Nacional do Livro Didático de Língua Portuguesa/PNLD (2021). These textbooks adhere to the guidelines outlined by the Base Nacional Comum Curricular/BNCC (2018) for high school education, which emphasizes the practices of Generaldian linguistic analysis (2004 [1984]) in grammar instruction. The research aims to address three key questions: (1) How can grammar be integrated with reading and text production within a text/genre-based teaching approach?; (2) How is syntax, a fundamental aspect of language structure, presented to students in the didactic materials approved by INEP? (3) Do the didactic proposals for adverbial subordinate clauses in the textbooks Multiverses: Portuguese Language (CAMPOS; ODA, 2020) and Languages in Interaction: Portuguese Language (CHINAGLIA, 2020) focus on enhancing students' reading and text production skills or primarily on working with metalanguage? This dissertation is theoretically and methodologically grounded in the sociological and dialogical conception of language developed by Bakhtin and the Circle (VOLÓCHINOV, 2018 [1929], 2019 [1930]; BAKHTIN, 2008 [1963]), as well as Bakhtinian concepts such as stylistics (BAKHTIN, 2013 [1940]) and genres of discourse (MEDVIÉDEV, 2019 [1928]; BAKHTIN, 2019 [1952/53]). The study examines the teaching proposals for adverbial subordinate clauses in the selected textbooks to determine whether they prioritize an understanding of the use of these clauses in discourse, i.e., their integration with students' reading and textual production, or if they solely focus on the isolated grammatical structure from a metalinguistic perspective. The findings indicate that the approach to reading and text comprehension in the textbooks aligns closely with linguistic analysis. However, the teaching of subordinate adverbial clauses is limited to the sentence level, disregarding the relationship between style and grammar, as well as the connection between text and grammar. Consequently, these textbooks do not contribute effectively to students' understanding of the role of subordinate adverbial clauses and their impact on meaning within texts.
