Esta dissertação apresenta um estudo quantitativo da variação entre preenchimento e não-preenchimento dos pronomes pessoais de 2ª e 3ª como complementos dativos no Português do Brasil (PB). Os dados são sincrônicos e correspondem a gravações de diálogos televisivos de novelas e entrevistas, ambientados no século XXI. A variação entre preenchimento e não-preenchimento desses pronomes com função dativa corresponde a um fenômeno comum no PB, havendo uma forte tendência para a categoria vazia. O nosso objetivo é descrever, analisar e explicar essa questão da variação, segundo os pressupostos teórico-metodológicos da Sociolingüística e da Lingüística Funcional

This research presents a quantitative study o f the variation between overt and covert forms pronouns of 2nd and 3rd persons as dative complements in Brazilian Portuguese. The data are synchronic and correspond to soap opera and interviews' dialogues exhibited on TV, in century XXI. The variation between use and non-use o f these pronouns with dative function is an ordinary phenomenon in Brazilian Portuguese, and there is a tendency towards covert forms. Our goal is to describe, analyze and explain this variation, using the theoretic and methodological tools o f Sociolinguistic and Functional Linguistics
