This research investigates the semantics of the word tyka in Karitiana, an Amazonian language of the Arikém family (Tupi stock) spoken nowadays by approximately 320 people who live in their own reservation located in Porto Velho, Rondônia (Nelson Karitiana - personal communication - 2005).
