O presente trabalho tem o objetivo de, a partir de técnicas experimentais, estabelecer um modelo de descrição acústico-articulatória dos sons da voz, em particular do português do Brasil. Assim, procura apresentar subsídios, a partir dos estudos de engenharia elétrica do sinal de voz, para uma classificação dos sons da voz, sem a pretensão de exaustão, nem a de encontrar novas fórmulas de parâmetros acústicos. Pretende, sim, efetuar uma releitura das análises dessa área e estabelecer uma possível descrição acústico-articulatória dos sons da voz, conjugando, portanto, os trabalhos lingüísticos com os da engenharia elétrica, na Área de Fonética. Desse ponto de vista, procura situar a análise da expressão do signo lingüístico, no processo da comunicação, distinguindo os estudos da forma de expressão: Fonologia, dos da substância de expressão: Fonética. A partir do que, situando os órgãos fisiológicos do aparelho fonador, efetua uma classificação articulatória dos sons da voz. A seguir, introduz as propriedades acústicas que caracterizam o som, bem como descreve várias técnicas experimentais na abordagem dos sons da voz. Assim, com base experimental, os sons da voz são examinados pela técnica palatofotográfica, de um lado, procurando detectar e corroborar os dados da classificação articulatória; e pela técnica computacional, de outro, procurando estabelecer uma classificação acústica.

The present work aims to construct a model of acoustic and articulatory description of the sounds of human voice, more specifically sounds from Brazilian Portuguese language, using experimental procedures. In this way, it will offer support: to a classification of the sounds of human voice based on the Electrical Engineering studies on voice signal, without intending either to exhaust the subject nor to propose new formulas for the acoustic parameters. On the contrary, it intends to review the analyses performed in this field and to propose an acoustic and articulatory description of the sounds of human voice combining the linguistics knowledge achieved in the area of Phonetics with the developments in the field of Electrical Engineering. In this regard, this work concerns the analysis of the expression plane of the linguistic sign in the communication process in as much as it follows the distinction established between the studies dealing with expression substance, that is, Phonetics. The ideas developed in this work are organized in the following way first, the articulatory classification of the voice sounds is proposed, taking the physiology of the vocal organs into accouring. Then, it presents the acoustic properties characteristic of the sounds and it describes the various experimental procedures to approach voice sounds. In addition, the voice sounds are analysed both using the palatophotographic technique, in order to verify the articulatory classification, and using a computurized technique in order to construct an acoustic classification of voice sounds.
