O objetivo central deste trabalho foi estudar a prática lingüística dos holandeses no Brasil durante a primeira metade do século XVII. Esta pesquisa procurou, também, identificar etapas do desenvolvimento da metodologia científica que ora se constituía, especialmente no que tange à construção de novos sistemas de representação, onde a taxonomia científica desempenhou papel de relevância. Os documentos de História Natural, crônicas e relatos (oficias e de viajantes) foram o material privilegiado na constituição dos corpora de análise lingüística e contextual. O estudo da metodologia utilizada na produção desses documentos fornece subsídios para a descrição da prática lingüística no Brasil Holandês e para os princípios organizadores e norteadores dessa prática

Abstract in English
The main purpose of this paper was to study the Dutch linguistic practice during the first half of the 17th century. Besides our first objective, we also identified the stages of the scientific methodology that was developing, especially in what is related to the construction of the new systems of representation, in which the scientific taxonomy played an relevant role. The documents of Natural History, chronics, and reports (official and from the travelers) were the material that was focused in the linguistic analysis and contextual corpora. The study of the methodology applied in the production of these documents permits us describe the linguistic practice of the Dutch Brazil and organizational principies of this practice
