This study aims to build a reflection on how the field experience, in ethnographic work, is translated into a verbal text. To do so, we will analyse the book Tristes tropique by Claude Lévi-Strauss from the perspective of semiotics of discourse. It is important to note that the empirical scope necessary for the construction of an ethnographic writing has in figuratives elements the main access to the elaboration of a discourse that deals with the experiences in the fieldwork. Also, the empirical textualized should mobilize the sensibility of the enunciatee of the ethnographic writing, as if to persuade him that the narrated experience was, in fact, lived by the ethnographer. In our investigation, we will pay special attention to figurative sound elements, for two reasons. The first: they constitute the type of figurative elements that has the greatest potential to affect the enunciatee, given that language allows figurative elements not to be restricted to the boundaires of the content plane, but also to make use of the expression plane to create a figurative element with a greater effect of reality. In turn, the second reason concerns the fact that figurative sound elements are often accompanied by figurative elements of other sensorial orders, configuring moments of synaesthesia that enable the construction of simulacrums that are closer to the human perception. Thus, we will not be harmed by making that choice. We believe, finally, that this dissertation allows a opening to the treatment of sensitive factors necessary in an ethnographic writing.
